2018 Toyota Prius Hybrid Fire Risk Forces Toyota To Issue Recall

By  |

Toyota will be issuing a recall after it was discovered that their vehicles might have a possible fire risk.

The issue will be affecting 1 million vehicles globally with 192,000 units from the US. According to the reports, the issue is with the wiring harness from the hybrid power unit. Vibrations and accumulating dirt could wear down the harness insulation at the connection point which could lead to an electrical short creating a fire risk.

Models that will be affected include the plug-in hybrid Prius and C-HR model produced in Japan from June 2015 to May 2018. This is not the only recall that Toyota has an issue. Toyota also issued a recall to fix the fuel tank issue for the Prius. The Prius airbags have also been recalled.

Those affected by the recall will be inspected and fix free of change. If the wire core on the hybrid unit harness has been exposed, it will be replaced. Owners will be notified of the pending recall starting next month.
