2018 Ford Mustang GT Can Finally Match 455hp Camaro SS

It may be possible that the 2018 Ford Mustang GT is going get an upgrade and when it does the output will be 455 horses. This means that the Mustang is getting ever closer to the Chevrolet Camaro SS, which also offers 455 horses and 455 of torque thanks to the V8 6.2 litre engine.

We have already seen the 2018 Ford Mustang GT but Ford has kept the specifications very close to their chest. We know that the GT and the EcoBoost versions are going to see an increase in the amount of horses and torque they offer, but Ford hasn’t said just how big an increase it will be.

A Ford communications representative did make a Tweet and he pointed out the photo of the digital gauge from the 2018 Ford Mustang GT. He said to look at the odometer, the 1964.5 miles could be a reference to the first model year of the Mustang, the 289 miles could be the fuel range and nod to the displacement of the V8 in the first Mustang.

He said to look at the bigger numbers and you could see a big 4 and big 55. There was a lot of speculation about what this meant with some saying that it meant 455 horses.

It isn’t usual for carmakers to give subtle teases and clues in images and this could be a hint that the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang GT is going to offer up 455 horses. At the moment the 5 litre V8 Mustang GT offers up 435 horses.

The2018 Ford Mustang 5 litre is going to have direct and port fuel injection along with a compression ratio that is higher. An increase of 20 horses would be more than plausible for the vehicle. Ford Performance offers aftermarket calibration packs for the Mustang on the market at the moment and the engine of the GT350 can be boosted from 435 horses to 472 horses.

But what do you think? Is the 2018 Ford Mustang GT going to offer up 455 horses to take it more alongside the Chevrolet Camaro SS?
