The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is a V6 supercharged luxury vehicle while the Mazda CX-9 is a turbocharged four cylinder three row crossover that is affordable. So why are we comparing the two? Well while the CX-9 might not be as premium as the F-Pace it is comparable as they do have some things in common.
Both the Jaguar F-Pace and the Mazda CX-9 offer up good seating capacity. The CX-9 offers three seating rows but then room in the back does get compromised. The price tag of the Grand Touring and Signature trims of the CX-9 take it in-line with the price of the modestly equipped version of the F-Pace. The Mazda offers more features but the pricing isn’t as disparity as you might expect.
The Mazda CX-9 is all new and it comes with the 2.5 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder gas engine offering 250 horses and 310 torque. Power goes to all four wheels or the front thanks to the 6 speed automatic. The Touring is the entry level but this is far from a base model as it offers leather seating, proximity key, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and 18 inch alloys.
The Grand Touring brings Bose audio, navigation, automatic emergency brakes, LED adaptive headlamps and more for another $4,000. At the top of the line is the Signature, this is all-wheel drive and comes with Nappa leather along with French stitching in the cabin and open pore wood trim. While it is a stunner points are lost for practical, as it isn’t the best.
The Jaguar F-Pace comes with the 2 litre 4 cylinder turbodiesel engine or the 3 litre supercharged gas V6 engine offering 180 horses and 317 torque, which gives 33mpg when out driving on the highway. You get stellar performance from the V6 and it offers up 340 horses. The interior isn’t traditional Jaguar, some say that it is stark. There is room for five people and the seats are firm with only a small amount of lumbar adjustment.
The Jaguar F-Pace is offered in many trims, the lower spec comes with the Meridian audio, good touchscreen and infotainment system and panoramic roof for under $45,000. The upholstery is synthetic leather but overall the vehicle does feel and look good value for money. If you want real leather seating you are going to have to go for the Prestige trim.
The Mazda CX-9 is a value oriented Jaguar F-Pace alternative that you might want to consider, but then the F-Pace is really worth paying out that bit extra for as it is more polished.
