2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Has Toyota Tacoma Upping Its Game

By  |

The news that GM was taking the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 concept into production went down well with fans. This is due to the fact that now there is going to be an alternative to the Toyota Tacoma TRD, the latter is going to have to up its game.

Toyota are not going to sit back and do nothing though as the mid-sized market is going to be even more crowded when the Ford Ranger makes its way out in 2018.

Now we hear that Toyota has had to respond and that the new Toyota Tacoma could be arriving with a diesel engine. This is to ensure that the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 steals all the thunder. The Colorado 2.8 litre Duramax engine doesn’t have anything that can match it at the moment.

It is going to be difficult to put up a fight against the Colorado ZR2 due to the fact that it does make a lot of sense financially. However the Toyota Tacoma makes a good rival and the TRD does account for about 40% of the sales of the truck and consumers are going for the more hard-core off the road vehicles.

So we are waiting to find out if the Toyota Tacoma TRD is going to be offered with the diesel engine. The big question is going to be how it is able to rival the Duramax engine that offers 30mpg in fuel economy and 369 of torque.
