2016 Ford Mustang Takes On Chevrolet Camaro: The Choice Should Be Clear

By  |

If you are in the market for a coupe that offers four seats and which is fun to drive then you may be comparing the Chevrolet Camaro and the 2016 Ford Mustang. But is this going to be a clear and easy choice?

The Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang both offer strong performance and impressive value along with bold styling. This certainly doesn’t make choosing between the two any easier.

The Chevrolet Camaro comes with new styling and so it offers a bolder look than before. The Ford Mustang meanwhile hasn’t seen that many changes since 2014.

The Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro are both vehicles that are superb but for the warranty the Camaro is slightly ahead. It is the cheapest to own thanks to the fact that it offers two years of free maintenance.

There is the V6 engine in both the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang and you get about 29mpg highway driving and 19mpg in the city. This is with the 3.7 litre engine offering up 305 horses. The engine in the Camaro offers 323 horses and you should get 28mpg on the highway and about 19mpg when driving in the city.

There is also the V8 6.2 litre engine in the Chevrolet Camaro and the V8 5 litre in the Ford Mustang. You shouldn’t expect to get brilliant fuel economy as the combined in the Ford is around 20mpg and in the Camaro it is 19mpg.

The Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang both come packed with plenty of technology. This includes navigation and infotainment but the Camaro is slightly ahead thanks to it offering the MyLink 7 inch touch display.

The base version of the Chevrolet Camaro is $24, 500 and the Ford Mustang is $23, 500. So is the choice clear over whether you are going to go for the Ford or the Chevrolet?

What an uninspired and superficial comparison. Both are outstanding cars but each has their strong points. The Camaro is all new and shares the same light weight but extraordinarily superior chassis from the Cadillac ATS. The base Camaro comes with an excellent turbo charged 2.0 litre four cylinder engine also from the Cadillac ATS. The base engine the Mustang is the six cylinder. The Mustang offers a high performance turbo 2.3 litre 4 cylinder as its mid-range engine. The Camaro has their excellent six cylinder engine as the mid range power option. Both the Camaro had excellent V8 engines in the Mustang GT and the Camaro SS. The Camaro SS has been compared (Motor Trend) with the twice-as-expensive BMW M4 and came out the clear winner in just about every measure. The Mustang can be ordered in Shelby guise and has an incredible 500+ hp flat-plane V8. The Camaro has announced the ZL1 edition of the Camaro in both hardtop and convertible versions with an expected 640 hp. The Camaro will also be adding a Z28 in the near future with an as of yet unspecified V8. These two cars along with the Dodge Challenger Hellcat prove that this is truly the Golden Age of muscle cars.
