Over the weekend, the iPhone 5 deal over at Walmart attracted a lot of attention. As we showed you in our calculations, when compared to taking a two-year plan with AT&T, you would save up to $510 via the Straight Talk plans via Walmart.
Walmart iPhone 5 $45 unlimited data plan actually gets capped at 2GB
But as usual, when something seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. As is the case with the supposed unlimited iPhone 5 plan. As the folks over at Walmart found out, there’s some serious bandwidth throttling in effect actually.
According to Mashable who highlighted complaints from Straight Talk customers, their accounts were shut down after reaching a certain amount of data. So what was the limit? Apparently it is just 2GB of data.
While a 2GB data limit isn’t too small, it doesn’t make sense for them to advertise their $45 iPhone 5 data plan as being unlimited. So if you were considering jumping on the Walmart deal, be aware of the limit – after all the iPhone 5 is a data hungry monster after all.
