Volvo XC90 Shows How Things Are Done: Audi Q7, BMW X5 Take Note

By  |

The Volvo XC90 is showing the Audi Q7 and BMW X5 just how things are done. We say this as the vehicle has managed to lead the revival of Volvo alone.

The Chinese car maker, Geely, revealed four years back that they had invested $11 billion in Volvo and eyebrows were raised at the time. The money was used to develop the SPA platform along with a new engine plant and this has turned out to be an investment that has been well worth it.

The Volvo XC90 and the S90 have both proved this to be true and sales of Volvo vehicles have been rising year after year. This has been mainly due to the sales of the XC90, which has increased by 259% over in the US.

While the Volvo XC90 may be only eighteen months now, in four years it is going to be the oldest among the line-up of vehicles in the Volvo range and this is thanks to SPA. The Volvo boss recently spoke out and said that the South Carolina plant is going to be producing 100,000 vehicles by the middle of 2018. There was also talk about autonomous driving and of course the partnership between Uber and Volvo.

Volvo has been doing a great deal of research into autonomous driving using the Volvo XC90 and we have seen the vehicle in Pittsburgh being tested.

Volvo said three years ago that they wanted to become the top-tier brand in premium vehicles and said they wanted to sell 800,000 each year around the world. They have managed to sell 425,000 so they have doubled sales in four years. But according to Volvo the 800,000 is still an achievable target and this is thanks to the Volvo XC90.
