The Volvo XC90 is showing the Audi Q7 and BMW X5 just how things should be done as the XC90 has managed to lead the Volvo revival all on its own.
Just four years ago Geely, the Chinese automaker, announced that they were investing $11 billion in Volvo and this caused many eyebrows to raise. They used the money to develop a new engine plant and the SPA platform and it seems that the investment was well worth it.
The Volvo XC90 along with the S90 is testament to this fact and the vehicles of Volvo have been increased in sales year on year, thanks mainly to the XC90. Sales of the vehicle have been increased by 259% in the US.
The Volvo XC90 is now around eighteen months old but in four years’ time it will become the oldest vehicle among the line-up of Volvo thanks to the SPA. The boss of Volvo spoke out recently when he said that by the middle of 2018 the plant in South Carolina will be sending out about 100,000 vehicles per year. He also talked about autonomous driving and the partnership between Volvo and Uber.
Volvo are going a lot of the autonomous driving research with the Volvo XC90 and people have spied autonomous versions of the XC90 in Pittsburgh already.
Three years back Volvo said that they wanted to be the top-tier premium brand and they indicated that they wanted to sell around 800,000 vehicles each year around the globe. Up to now they have sold 425,000 and this means they have managed to double the sales in only four years, however Volvo still thinks that the target it doable and thanks to vehicles such as the Volvo XC90 it may be well true.
