The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has been left to pick up the pieces after the Toyota Prius mess. Sales of the Prius declined for the fourth year during 2016 but luckily for the car maker the RAV4 Hybrid has come out just in time and has been able to take up the slack.
The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is now the second best-seller among hybrids. The Toyota Prius line-up includes the Prius Liftback, V Wagon, C Compact hatchback and the Prime plug-in hybrid and all saw plunges in sales in 2016 by 24% at 136, 632 units.
It was said that the decline in sales was down to the low gas prices along with their being more competitive vehicles on the market and crossover SUVs being more popular than cars.
Ford were the pioneers of hybrid SUVs back in 2004 when they launched the Escape Hybrid, but ended it is 2013.
The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid arrived in November 2015 and this was the 2016 model and this was at a time when gas prices had taken a nose dive. It sold 45, 097 units and this earned it the title of the second best-selling hybrid.
