T-Mobile will officially get the Apple iPhone 5 within a period of 3 to 4 months. This news came from the CEO at the CES. It is also worth noting that T-Mobile will also drop subsidies in the same time period.
T-Mobile iPhone 5 by this summer
T-Mobile said in December that the Apple iPhone would make its way to them, following many years of being the only major carrier in the US not to have the handset. The company were vague about which of the products from Apple they would have, however the Apple iPhone is certain. T-Mobile could go the way of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon and offer customers the cellular Apple iPad too.
The comments at the CES didn’t include anything about the Apple iPad, talk was only about the Apple iPhone and the drop of subsidies.
The CEO said these would come about in 3 to 4 months, rather than 6 to 9 months. T-Mobile does support over 1.9 million Apple iPhones at the moment and they get around 100,000 new activations each month.
When it comes to subsidies, the CEO said that he thought it would increase the market shares of T-Mobile if they got rid of discounted devices, by offering monthly fees that are lower. He said he expected the amount of subscribers to increase by around 5% or higher, as T-Mobile won’t be forcing people into contracts of two years like the other carriers do in exchange for subsidy.
