If you have been waiting for T-Mobile to officially carry the iPhone then you could have some time to wait if you want the device on contract.
T-Mobile: iPhone 5 great but carrier won’t sway to Apple’s demands
While T-Mobile would like nothing better than to be able to offer the iPhone to customers, it seems that they do not want to become caught up in a pricing war. Nor do they want to commit to the demands of Apple, as Sprint did recently with their contract.
In the US the iPhone 5 is very hot at the moment and the only major carriers in the US to have it on contract are AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. This was the same scenario when Apple released the iPhone 4 and the 4S and left out T-Mobile. It seems the same could continue happening with T-Mobile unless Apple will show leniency with the pricing for the device. However this is unlikely as they didn’t with Sprint and now the carrier will have to wait until 2015 to get any profit from the iPhone 5.
T-Mobile has said that they have lost customers in Q3 as the result of not having the iPhone 5 for sale and they will be hit again with a loss when the results for Q4 are announced. T-Mobile have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Nexus 4 behind them, and thanks to their coverage and the prices that are reasonable many people will wonder why T-Mobile didn’t choose to go the way of a deal similar to Sprint.
You do have to ask yourself if the iPhone 5 is a necessity for T-Mobile when people can take their unlocked iPhone to T-Mobile on a pre-paid plan. This could all change when T-Mobile finally get their LTE out, they could then decide to give in to the demands of Apple and have the iPhone 5 so as to increase their customer base in order to make back the money they invested in the new technology much quicker.
