The Tesla Model Y will be the next model to come after the Model 3 and we know that it will be coming in as an affordable SUV model. When Elon Musk first talked about the vehicle, he suggested that the vehicle would come with a platform of its own and a lot of people thought that Tesla was pushing it.

Designing and making a new architecture for the Tesla Model Y would mean that the vehicle would take longer to be completed since Tesla would have to test it first before they can start working on the Model Y. It is also not the most cost efficient plan and since the Model Y was supposed to be affordable, it just did not make sense.

Luckily, Elon Musk did come to his senses. This week, he announced that instead of working on a new platform, the Tesla Model Y will come riding on the same platform as the Tesla Model 3.

Production of the Model Y should start at the end of 2019 or early 2020.
