Steve Jobs may have mocked the idea of small tablets and stylus in today’s handheld devices, but Apple may introduce them eventually just like we saw with the iPad Mini recently.
iPad Mini & now Apple phablet with stylus?
When Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy Note some people laughed at the device and the stylus, which reminded them of the Palm Pilot. However these people soon had egg on their face when the Samsung Galaxy Note became well liked, and people had to take the stylus seriously.
Apparently Apple is entering into the stylus world as they have filed a patent for a pen accessory which comes with the description of active stylus. BGR has the scoop:
It is said that the device can either act as a drive electrode to create an electric field between the drive electrode and the sense lines of a mutual capacitive touch sensor panel, or as a sense electrode for sensing capacitively coupled signals from one or more stimulated drive rows and columns of the touch sensor panel or both.
To you and me what this means is that the stylus would perform all the functions as a traditional stylus pen. However it would allow for a more accurate input.
Apple have followed trends over the last year, rather than setting them, when they revealed a larger Apple iPhone 5 and a smaller version of their Apple iPad, the iPad Mini. Therefore it shouldn’t come as any great surprise that Apple would release something along the lines of an “iNote” phablet sometime in the near future even after Steve Jobs declared small tablets and styluses as ridiculous.
