Rumours about the next Skyrim DLC being just months away are surfacing after it was found that Bethesda have trademarked Redguard. Pete Hines went on Twitter to answer questions about Redguard and the release date.
The Redguard name of course hasn’t been made official and neither has the release date. However if you look into the history of Bethesda you can make some guesses. In the past they have trademarked titles and then revealed them as a DLC. Therefore we can assume that this could happen with Redguard and that it may be released in the spring. This would follow on for Dragonborn, which was released in December.
Fans have been speculating online through Twitter and what Pete Hines had to say may not please everyone.
He said “@LShankley just the three [DLCs] you know of. no other dlc has been announced for skyrim.”
While Pete Hines has been keeping quiet about Redguard there are other sources of information.
The Official Xbox Magazine said that Bethesda had this to say about Redguard and that it was “downloadable computer game software offered via the Internet and wireless devices.” This does seem to be quite conclusive.
The magazine also mentioned the fact that Redguard would be set in Hammerfell, which is the home of the Redguards, who are very proud and aggressive. The piece said that “You may already know from playing Skyrim that the Redguards are the fiercest warriors around. They also hate wizards and most types of magic.” The mag also said of the Redguards: “(they are) reportedly skilled in the use of Destruction magic, the latter aren’t big fans of wizards in general — they regard any combat art that doesn’t deal out punishment directly as dangerously effete.”
However some people believe that Redguard is nothing more than just a rumour and Bethesda could have taken out the trademark on the name so as to put a stop to anyone else being able to use it. However in the past a DLC has been released for Skyrim, shortly after the name has been trademarked. Bear in mind also that Bethesda have not trademarked any of the other places, factions or Elder Scrolls tribes.
Fans were talking about the release date for Redguard and the magazine believes that the DLC could be played in Dragonstar, this is a city were Redguards along with Nords live.
“According to the Elder Scrolls wiki, the city is (or at least, was) a hotbed of political contention, chopped up Berlin-Wall-style between the Nords and Redguards in the aftermath of a long-ceased war. Visit the site today (you’ll need access to a PC version and mod tools) and you’ll find only an oddly featureless, geometry-less stretch of land dotted with pine trees. Going on technological insight that I absolutely don’t have, this would seem a good foundation for an add-on: the less extant landscape there is to wrangle with, surely, the easier new assets are to install.
“An expansion set partly or entirely within Dragonstar would be an interesting experience, thanks to the aforesaid rocky local politics, but after playing Dragonborn, I suspect the bulk of the pack may once again take place off-shore. Bethesda’s decision to revisit the isle of Solstheim in the most recent expansion was a stroke of genius… Skyrim’s expansions could serve as a means of publicising the game’s wider universe prior to the launch of the continent-spanning Elder Scrolls Online.”
Fans of the game may wish to consider that the DLC was said to have been linked with previous title. Players will know that they fought an enemy that was hard to beat in the form of the Redguard Ebony Warrior.
So what do you think will be the next DLC for the game? Will it be Redguard and will it be played in Hammerfell or Dragonstar?
