Rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S4 have been flooding the internet following new tech announcements at the CES. Two of which were the flexible AMOLED displays and the 8 core processors.
8-core chip tipped for Samsung Galaxy S4 nothing more than a publicity stunt?
However the Exynos Octa Core processor has been said to be nothing more than a publicity stunt by Qualcomm, even before it comes out in handsets, one of which is thought to be the Samsung Galaxy S4. According to Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs, the processor will not bring any real world benefits to handsets.
As the amount of cores increase the more difficult it becomes to be able to manage the temperature and power consumption of the device. This may mean that the big.LITTLE ARM architecture might not improve the power management versus the older chips, but rather only keep the Octa-core processor in check to make sure that it doesn’t kill the battery faster than its predecessor.
As the Samsung Galaxy S4 is thought to be larger than its predecessor, this is very interesting. The device has been rumoured to have a display of 4.99-inches and boast a 1080p full HD resolution. For the time being we will have to wait and see what happens and which of the two chip manufacturers are right.
