While there have been many comparisons between the reigning champ, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the recently released iPhone 5, we haven’t seen many comparing the top Android dog to the upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 which looks set to be the flagship of its own platform. So let’s get to it!
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Nokia Lumia 920
When it comes to form factor the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a superb 4.8 inch display and the Nokia Lumia 920 a 4.5 inch. To accommodate the larger screen the S3 is taller at 136.6mm while the Lumia 920 is 130mm. the Galaxy S3 has a thickness of 8.6mm, while the Lumia 920 is 10.7mm. The width of the devices is 70.8 mm and 70.6mm. Weight is 133g for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Lumia 920 is 185g. Design-wise the Nokia Lumia 920 is gorgeous, while the Galaxy S3 has been criticized for its usage of glossy plastics. Winner: Nokia Lumia 920
The Nokia Lumia 920 has a PureMotion HD+ display of 4.5 inches and the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S3 at 4.8 inches is Super AMOLED. Thanks to the ClearBlack technology the Lumia screen, despite being smaller, may provide the vest biewing in direct sunlight and its higher ppi makes it one of the sharpest displays out there, even beating the iPhone 5 Retina. Winner: Nokia Lumia 920.
When it comes to processors the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the Exynos 4412 quad core, while the version in the US is dual core and has the Snapdragon processor. It comes with 2GB of RAM in the US and 1GB RAM internationally. The Lumia 920 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and it is the first time a dual core device has been launched by Nokia. Winner: Draw.
The storage on the Nokia Lumia 920 is 32GB and there is no SD card support. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does have SD card support up to 64GB and it comes in version 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera while the Nokia Lumia 920 has an 8.7MP shooter. The Lumia 920 has PureView which shoots videos at 1080p, as does the S3. The Lumia 920 has a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front and the S3 a 1.9 megapixel. In a recent camera test by TheVerge, the Nokia Lumia 920 beat the Samsung Galaxy S3 in low light shots while shots in normal lighting conditions were almost on par with each other. Both of the devices have all the connections you would expect which includes 3G/HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, wireless charging and NFC. Winner: Draw
Based on the above comparison, the Nokia Lumia 920 manages to throw more hits and score higher points than the S3; however in the end it will come down to your preference in OS – Android or WP8. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is out now on all of the major carriers in the US and the Nokia Lumia 920 is expected around November. Though some say it could be released as soon as the official release of Windows Phone 8, which takes place on 26th October.
