The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD has become available in stores of Verizon and it looks like the device will be a hit. The Droid is similar to the current flagship Android on Big Red, the Samsung Galaxy S3 in numerous ways, which was released in July. However there are a couple of important differences between the handsets that may help you pick which one’s more for you. Let’s take a look.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD
Price: The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD can be bought with a two year contract for $299.99, which is higher than the price tag of the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S3 at $249.99. Of course these prices depend on you taking the phone with Verizon over two years. However if you go off contract, the Samsung Galaxy S3 can be purchased for cheaper than the DROID given its age. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3
Battery: The battery on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD typically offers up to 32 hours of life and the Samsung Galaxy S3 clunks out at around 15 hours. This is a vast difference and one that could sway people to the Droid. Winner: Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD
The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD is heavier and thinker than the Samsung Galaxy S3, mainly due to the size of the battery. This is a very big factor when you consider that these are giant phones to begin with. It is 5.5 ounces and the S3 is 4.7 ounces. The Droid happens to be around a quarter of an inch shorter than the S3 though and it is narrower which should help you slip it in your pocket despite the thickness. If you hold both of the handsets up you will feel a difference in weight, so this is something to check out before making your mind up. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is 5.4” x 2.8” x 0.3” and the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD 5.19″ x 2.67″ x 0.36″. Winner: Your personal preference for lighter & thinner or narrower & shorter.
Screen: In terms of display both have the same number of pixels and screens are very similar in size. They both have a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and the display of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 4.8 inches, while that of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD is 4.7 inches. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3 (slightly)
Connectivity & Power: Both of the handsets have support for 4G LTE and both come with dual core processors offering the same 1.5GHz clock speed. Processing speed and connection speeds are about the same on both handsets. However the Samsung Galaxy S3 may have a slight advantage thanks to 2GB RAM for more better multitasking power, as well as added connectivity options like wireless charging, Share Shot, S Beam and more. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3
Camera: Both devices have great as both have 8MP shooters up front but the S3 has a slightly better front camera. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3
OS: Both run Ice Cream Sandwich but their UIs are different. BLUR looks almost identical to stock ICS and it even has the infamous Holo UI with its blue tinge all through the skin. TouchWiz is much more “heavier” and can even be mistaken for Gingerbread. However while BLUR may be prettier, TouchWiz has many more features. So it really depends what you want, looks or more add-on features. Winner: Personal preference (looks vs features)
