Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5 vs Nexus 4: Who Da Winner?

There is no doubt that one of the best handsets to come out of last year was the Samsung Galaxy S3. It came out in May and it remains as popular today as it ever was. The Apple iPhone 5 then came out in September and the LG Nexus 4 was released in November.

The LG Nexus 4 packs the 1.5GHz processor and this is a quad core. The Apple iPhone 5 has the A5 processor and the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with the quad core internationally, with 1GB of RAM and in the US it has 2GB of RAM and it is a dual core. The Apple iPhone 5 may be slowest of the lot but then it does beat the iPhone 4S that came before it. The LG Nexus 4 has 2GB of RAM and it also has quad cores and so it wins.

The LG Nexus 4 comes with Android 4.2 and it is pure Android. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS but you can update this to Jelly Bean. The Apple iPhone 5 has iOS 6.1. If you wish to customise your device then you would be better off choosing the Android OS. In this case you could consider the LG Nexus 4 thanks to it being the first to get updates. On the other hand you might want to choose between the LG Nexus 4 and Apple iPhone 5.

With the LG Nexus 4 you have a choice of 8GB or 16GB of storage but there is no support for SD card. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does support SD card and it comes in 16GB and 32GB of storage. The Apple iPhone 5 is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB but no support for SD card.

The LG Nexus 4 has a screen of 4.7 inches. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with a display of 4 inches, which offers 318ppi and resolution of 1136 x 640. The display of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 4.8 inches and this is 306ppi and has a resolution of 1280 x 720p. The IPS display works better outside and colours are more realistic. The LG Nexus 4 offers the biggest of the IPS displays and this makes it stand out as the winner.

You get a battery of 2100mAh with the LG Nexus 4 which gives 15 hours of life. The Samsung Galaxy S3 along with the Apple iPhone 5 comes with around 8 hours of battery life. In recent tests by AnandTech they put the Apple iPhone 5 in first place, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 close behind and the LG Nexus 4 in last place.

The LG Nexus 4 comes with a weight of 129 grams and it has measurements of 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a weight of 112 grams and measures 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm. The Apple iPhone 5 is the smallest, lightest and thinnest of the handsets, which means it wins. The device has superb looks, but then so does the LG Nexus 4.

The Apple iPhone 5 doesn’t have NFC support, while the LG Nexus 4 doesn’t come with LTE and the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with both.

You get 8 megapixel cameras with all of the devices and they have support for autofocus and video recording at 1080p. the LG Nexus has a camera of 1.3 on the front, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has one of 1.9 and the Apple iPhone 5 comes with a 1.2 camera. The handsets offers something unique. The LG Nexus 4 has Photosphere, the Samsung Galaxy S3 takes video and photos at the same time, the Apple iPhone 5 is superb when it comes to low light.

If you want a handset that is very easy to use you might want to choose the Apple iPhone 5. It does look superb and it has a camera that is great. The LG Nexus 4 has hardware that is great, but then it doesn’t have LTE and storage is limited. It does however have a price tag that is very low at $299. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has plenty of storage, it comes with the biggest screen, it has S features, a great processor and plenty of connection options. You can change the battery and thanks to the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the price tag has come down to about $450.
