As we are well into 2013, a couple of great new smartphones have been announced but they are still not readily available in the market. As such, if you’re looking to buy a flagship handset today you may be debating between the Samsung Galaxy S3 which came out in May, the iPhone 5 that released in October, or the LG Nexus 4 which launched in November. So which of the handsets happens to be the best? Let’s check it out.

There is a 1.5GHz quad core in the LG Nexus 4 and this is coupled with 2GB. The Apple iPhone 5 has the 1.2GHz processor mixed with 1GB of RAM. What the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers will be dependent on where you live. Over in the US it is the dual core with 2GB and internationally it is the quad core and this comes with 1GB of RAM.

The display of the LG Nexus 4 is 4.7 inches, with a resolution of 1280 x 768. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with a resolution of 1136 x 640 and it has a 4 inch display. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with the largest of the displays at 4.8 inches and resolution of 1280 x 720. The LG Nexus 4 along with the Apple iPhone 5 both come with IPS displays and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the Super AMOLED. Super AMOLEDs tend to have a look that is hyper real and it is not brilliant outside. The IPS displays win as the colours are better and they are more realistic. The LG Nexus 4 has the largest of the IPS screens so it is the winner.

You can get the LG Nexus in 8GB or 16GB but it lacks support for SD card. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage and no SD card slot. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has 16GB and 32GB choices along with boosting storage through SD card.

With the LG Nexus 4 you could get 15 hours use as it comes with a battery of 2100mAh. The other devices both offer around 8 hours use. In real life tests the Apple iPhone 5 comes out in top with the Samsung Galaxy S3 trailing behind and the LG Nexus 4 last.

Anyone who has the need for NFC would have to choose the LG Nexus or the Samsung Galaxy S3. If LTE is needed the choice is between the Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you want both then you don’t have a choice, as the only device to support both is the Samsung Galaxy S3.

All devices have cameras of 8 megapixels and they can record video in HD and support LED flash along with autofocus. The LG Nexus 4 and the Apple iPhone 5 come with 1.3 megapixel cameras on the front, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a front camera of 1.9 megapixels. The Apple iPhone 5 has to be the winner here as it has the best BSI sensor, which means that it can take great photos in low light. The LG Nexus 4 has Photosphere and the Samsung Galaxy S3 takes video and photos at the same time. The Apple iPhone 5 comes out on top as it has the best BSI sensor.

The LG Nexus 4 comes with a weight of 129 grams and it has dimensions of 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm. The Samsung Galaxy S3 weighs in at 122 grams and is 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm and the Apple iPhone 5 comes in lightest with a weight of 112 grams, plus it happens to be the thinnest of the devices too.

Only the LG Nexus 4 has pure Android 4.2.2 and the device should get updated faster than the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Apple iPhone 5 runs on iOS 6.1 and it is one of the most streamlined and stable devices. If you want to be able to personalise the handset then you would have to choose Android. So here you could be considering the LG Nexus 4 or the Apple iPhone 5. Bear in mind though that the Samsung Galaxy S3 may not continue to get updated for a long time.

Anyone who prefers a device that has great looks may wish to consider the Apple iPhone 5. It also has the easiest of operating systems, plus the camera is superb. However it is let down somewhat by hardware and connectivity choices, plus the OS can feel restrictive for some. The LG Nexus 4 is the best for price, however storage is lacking along with LTE. If it is an all-rounder that you are looking for then you would have to choose the Samsung Galaxy S3. It is a flagship handset that offers plenty of storage, LTE, NFC and a removable battery. It also comes with S features, a price that is decent and the display is the biggest of them all. It is a winner despite being the oldes, and as the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been released the price of the handset has come down to just $480, which makes it the winner here.
