If you want to buy the best handset right now the two obvious choices are the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. So if you had to pick, how do they match up against each other?
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5 (comparison)
To date Samsung have sold more than 20 million units of the S3 and by the end of the year this is expected to reach 30 million. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display of 1280 x 720 with 306 ppi. It has 4G, runs on Android 4.0 and has an 8 megapixel back camera and a camera of 1.9 on the front. It is expected to be getting an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean shortly.
You can get it in 16GB or 32GB and soon the option of 64GB. It starts at $199 with all the major carriers in the US and at the moment it is the best-selling handset. It is available in white, blue, red, grey, black and brown depending on your region.
The iPhone 5 has a Retina display of 4 inches and a resolution of 1136 x 640 with 326 ppi and a ratio of 16:9. The iPhone 5 comes with the latest iOS 6 and you can choose the 16GB, 32GB or 64GB version. It has a superb 8 megapixel font camera and a front facing 720p camera. It runs on the A6 processor (likely dual-core) and Apple say the battery gives you 8 hours of talk time.
The cost of the iPhone 5 starts from $199 on a contract of two years and it will be available on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon with pre-orders being taken from 14th September. Launch date for the handset is 21st September. It is thinner than previous versions by 0.04 inches and lighter by 0.75 ounces. The iPhone 5 is available in black or white.
Going on hardware alone, you will realize that both devices are actually alike. They both have high resolution displays, 4G LTE connectivity, 8-megapixel cameras, blazing dual-core processors and thin/light designs. So it would boil down to one thing, and that is which operating system you prefer to use – iOS or Android.
