With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung pulled off something that set the device apart from all others on the market. This is the device that Apple will have to beat with the release of their upcoming iPhone 5. However until then the iPhone 4S will be left fending off the S3. So what are the chances it can hold the fort until then? Let’s find out.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 4S
The display on the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be hard to beat thanks to its 4.8 inch Super AMOLED with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The current iPhone 4S has a 3.5 inch display with 960 x 640 pixels and it is of course Retina but outdated compared to the S3 nonetheless.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is 133g and the iPhone 4S is 140g, so it feels lighter in the hand than the iPhone 4S. On the plus side the iPhone 4S is easier to put in the pocket thanks to the smaller display. The iPhone 4S looks more solid than the plastic look of the Samsung Galaxy S3 as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a quad core processor from Qualcomm internationally and dual core in the US. It comes with 1GB RAM internationally and 2GB in the US. Overall the US version does better in benchmarks. The iPhone 4S has 512MB and an 800MHz dual-core processor. As the S3 is the most powerful of the two, it wins.
Both of the handsets come with 8 megapixel cameras and the front camera of the S3 is 1.9 megapixels while the iPhone 4S has a 0.3 megapixel. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with zero shutter lag and it has burst mode. With both of them using the same chip they should give the same results when photos are taken in low light although the S3’s software has more added extras as mentioned above.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 2,100mAh battery that is removable while the 1420mAh battery on the iPhone 4S is not. The S3 provides users with about three times the talk time of the iPhone 4S.
While the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes out of top as the winner, this is simple because it was designed to take on the iPhone 5, not the 4S. As for the iPhone 4S, there is no reason to buy one now. If you can’t wait for an iPhone 5 then jump on the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you still want a 4S, then hang on as its price tag is expected to continue sliding as the iPhone 5 nears.
