Around now it becomes the season for new smartphone releases, as we get ever closer to the holiday period. Numerous manufacturers are in the race to get their handsets on the market in time for holiday shopping rushes. HTC have chosen to give their HTC One X a revamp in the form of the HTC One X+ and it comes with a range of hardware and software upgrades. However will it be enough to take the crown from the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X+ (comparison)
There isn’t a lot of difference between the looks of the original handset and the HTC One X+. It is a little smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and this is down to it having a slightly smaller screen. The One X+ has a polycarbonate unibody, like the original, and this is a lot better than the plastic of the S3.
The HTC One X+ has a 4.7 inch display of 1280 x 720 Super LCD 2, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the 4.8 inch Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 display. Both of the devices have the same resolution, however the One X+ has the advantage 312ppi over the 306ppi of the S3. The S3 is also Pentile.
The HTC One X+ will be the first device to come with LTE support and have the Nvidia quad core Tegra 3 processor. This was clocked at 1.7GHz, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the dual core 1.5GHz processor from Qualcomm. The HTC is better for those who play games, thanks to the TegraZone library.
The HTC One X+ is available only in 64GB, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in 16GB and 32GB with external storage up to 64GB. Both handsets have a battery of 2100mAh, with Samsung’s being removable. Both handsets come with an array of connections including NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The One X+ has the advantage of having Beats Audio and a radio that is built into the handset. The Samsung Galaxy S3 features neither of these.
The HTC One X+ comes with Jelly Bean while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS, with the update expected for Jelly Bean very soon. Both phones have a camera of 8 megapixels and they can take video at 1080p. The S3 has a 1.9 megapixel camera on the front and the One X+ a 1.6 megapixel.
At the moment there is no price set for the One X+ or a release date. It is thought that it will only be available on AT&T. Both are top of the range handsets and they both have a lot going for them.
