Galaxy S3 vs DROID DNA: A Landslide Victory For HTC

There has and always will be an on-going argument over which is best, Android or iOS. But when it comes to Android we want to know which is the best device on the market. When considering this you have to turn to the flagship model of the individual manufacturers.

Samsung and HTC both have devices that are flagships in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC Droid DNA, but which of these two handsets is the best?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC DROID DNA

When it comes down to build the handsets are very different. Plastic has been used on both but Samsung prefer the shiny looks and HTC go for the matte. The HTC DROID DNA has the 5 inch display and comes in at 138 grams and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the 4.8 inch screen and is 13 grams. Both of the handsets measure 2.78 inch across and the S3 is the shorter of the two devices by 4.4 mm and thinner by 1.3mm.

The back of the HTC DROID DNA has been curved and it is soft touch and this means it feels good in the hand, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 resembles a slab that is glass and plastic. When it comes to design the winner is the HTC DNA.

There are two versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3. Internationally it comes with a Exynos processor of 1.4GHz and has 1GB of RAM and in the US it has the Snapdragon dual core, which is combined with 2GB of RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has Mali 400 GPU and the DNA has the Adreno 320. The Adreno has to work harder thanks to the 1080p display of the DNA, and the S3 beats the DNA in graphics benchmark tests.

You can get the Samsung Galaxy S3 in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and there is SD card support for up to another 64GB. The DNA comes with 16GB, 11GB of which is available to the owner and it lacks SD card support.

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is Super AMOLED with 306ppi and 1280 x 720 resolution, while the DNA has the LCD 3 display with 440ppi and 1920 x 1080p. The AMOLED display isn’t too great in sunlight while the DNA’s LCD 3 is.

The display of the HTC DROID DNA is the more superior as text is sharper and the images are clearer. Both devices are about the same when watching video and colours are rich on both phones. Thanks to it having the brighter and higher ppi display, the Droid DNA stands out as the winner.

Both of the handsets have cameras of 8 megapixels and these can record video at 1080p and 30 frames per second and both have flash. The HTC ImageSense gives users a sensor that is backlit and this is superb in low light. However with HDR photos the Samsung Galaxy S3 is better and it has more features.

The front camera of the DNA is 2.1 megapixels and the S3 has the 1.9 megapixel. The DNAs camera offers wider field, which is the best for video calls.

Thanks to the front camera it is the DNA that wins this category.

The DNA was the clear winner here thanks to a more powerful processor (quad-core with 2GB RAM combo), a better display and better design. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has its advantages of expandable storage and being available on all carriers though.

If you are already with Verizon or you are making the move then the HTC Droid DNA is the best device they have right now. For other carriers, the Samsung Galaxy S3 remains undefeated.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
