The Samsung Galaxy S3 is without a doubt the most hyped Android smartphone of 2012 (so far). However while it does pack great hardware, its UI doesn’t really scream ‘awesome.’ In fact it the Samsung Galaxy Nexus tops the TouchWiz UI hands down.
Sharp NERV makes us wish the Samsung Galaxy S3 hardware ran on this instead
Now we had this discussion earlier this month about manufacturer UIs. While companies like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and HTC have built custom UIs to stand out from the market, the recent introduction of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with its holographic UI has outshined Sense, TouchWiz, Blur and Optimus.
Today, NTT Docomo unveiled its summer lineup and with it revealed a working version of an upcoming Sharp Android smartphone with a UI that easily blows the rest away. Called the Sharp NERV edition SH–06D, the inspiration comes from the Evangelion franchise. As you will notice, there is a ton of information displayed on the homescreen alone, alongside a totally sick music widget.
I’m not a fan of the Evangelion series (or even seen it to be honest) but the orange, green, red, and black colors used to apparently match the readouts from the Magi computer system in the Evangelion series just look great with Android under the hood.
As for the actual exterior design of the Sharp NERV Android, while the rear casing may not appeal to everyone, I personally prefer it over that of the hyperglazed plastic Samsung Galaxy S3. Well enough chatter, check out the video below to see the awesome UI. Here’ hoping someone is clever enough to create a launcher that takes these elements into account and put in on the Google Play Store because we certainly can’t get our hands on this limited edition Sharp Android phone here in the US.
