At the moment Samsung continue with their tight reign on the smartphone market with the Galaxy S3. Now rumors suggest that Samsung are also working on the successor to the S3, the Galaxy S4.
Samsung Galaxy S3 may need to fend off iPhone 5 for another 5 more months
It is thought that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be released sometime in early 2013 and while we don’t known the specs of the new device it may come with a display that is 5 inches reports TheExaminer. This would make it 0.2 inches larger than the screen on the S3. It would also make it 1 inch larger than the display on the iPhone 5.
The processor could be the 1.6GHz Exynos quad core, which is used on the Galaxy Note 2. Rumor has it that the S4 will come with a camera of 13 megapixels and it should have the latest Android OS. This will either be Jelly Bean or Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been promised the update to Jelly Bean, along with the S2.
The Galaxy S3 was released in May and the S2 in February of 2011 and by 2013 this will be classed as an old handset, in the same way the iPhone 4 and 4S are. Of course users will not want this to happen without the devices first having run on the latest version of Android. So Samsung may want to concentrate on supporting their older handsets, as opposed to trying to dominate the smartphone market and Apple with new devices. People buying Samsung devices expect their handset to get the latest version of the operating system given its top-end hardware.
By September of 2012 more than 20 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S3 had been sold around the world and it has been dubbed the iPhone killer. Bear in mind though that both the iPhone 4 and the 4S have been updated by Apple to iOS 6, within days of the OS being released.
This had led to owners of Samsung devices feeling left out as Samsung are seen to be dragging their feet with their updates. Of course owners of Android handsets should be used to this by now as this has been happening for many years.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 could be a great release from Samsung, after all it would be the first device they released following the loss in court to Apple due to patent violations, of which featured more than 40 patents.
It is thought that Samsung will modify the S4 so as not to come close to breaching any Apple patents. At the moment Samsung have not said anything about the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4, however rumour has it that they may choose the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February to launch the device. However this would mean there would be a gap of five more months from now until then for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to keep fighting off the iPhone 5 from beating its sales record. The S3 of course has garnered up 20 million in sales and is aiming for 30 million before the year is up.
