Samsung have finally released for the first time, the kernel source for a handset already running Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S 3 LTE is to be announced in markets around Europe sometime in October 2012 and now its Jelly Bean kernel source is available.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update kernel source released
The phone will be very different from the version that is in the US. It won’t have the Snapdragon S4 dual core processor which the GT-i9305 S3 has but a Exynos quad core processor along with the in-house LTE baseband chip of Samsung.
The device was released in Korea a while back, running Android 4.1. Jelly Bean. It comes with 2GB of RAM which is in the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 at the moment but which was changed to 1GB for the international version.
So what can be done with this Jelly Bean kernel source? Basically custom ROM developers can use it to build better Jelly Bean ROMs for devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3. This is of course great news for those tired of waiting for the official Jelly Bean update to roll out.
