Android 4.2 is not coming out until 13th November, when it will come with the LG Nexus 4 release. However just like previous Android versions, some of the features of the update have been extracted and made available for handsets out at the moment,in this case the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Some Android 4.2 features readily available for Samsung Galaxy Nexus now
If you own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that has Android 4.1.1, then you will be able to get the new camera APK that comes from Android 4.2 right now. This will allow you to enjoy the new features of the camera, which includes Photo Sphere and gallery.
Photo Sphere allows users to take 360 degree photos in a panoramic setting, which can then be shared in things such as Google maps. This is just one of the numerous features that come with Android 4.2, which has the Jelly Bean name as opposed to being Key Lime Pie. If you own the rooted Samsung Galaxy Nexus, you can download it and play it with it right away; however you will find that you have to tinker with your device as you do have to flash it. This means that you should make a backup of your data before you go ahead and make the upgrade.
There are download links and instructions over at XDA Developers. You can also see what all the fuss is about if you don’t own the Nexus device, as you can get the updated Android 4.2 keyboard, which will give you Gesture typing. If you want this then head over here.
