Samsung have announced the Galaxy S3 Mini. This is the smaller brother to the successful Samsung Galaxy S3. However it has been somewhat of a disappointment to many as it is no iPhone 5 killer, if anything it looks targeted at the iPhone 3GS and mid-range market.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini no iPhone 5 killer
The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has a 4-inch display, a lot smaller than the original with its 4.8 inch screen. However the name of the handset is about the only thing that has impressed many. While many expected a smaller screen, what is disappointing about it is that it is only 800 x 480 resolution. This is less than the iPhone 5 display of 1136 x 640.
Connectivity is another let down for the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini as it cannot use 4G networks and instead has to rely on 3G. This is a huge no-no for any handset released in 2012 who expects to play with the big boys.
The camera on the back is only 5 megapixels, as opposed to the 8 on the Samsung Galaxy S3. This also means that it is less than that of the iPhone 5, but its beats the 3 megapixel camera of the iPhone 3GS.
However on the good side it does support NFC and it comes out of the box with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini runs on a dual core 1GHz processor and there is storage of either 8GB or 16GB and the option of expanding via SD card.
At the moment we don’t know how much the device costs or when it will be in stores. However with many thinking it is a let down to the Galaxy S3 name, perhaps no one really cares.
