There has been a lot of debate and speculation over when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive on devices or whether it will ever arise. To help users of Android phones, HTC have posted timelines for when the update should arrive. There is good news and bad news for users, depending on the type of handset you own.
Official HTC Android 4.0 update list
There is good news for anyone who owns the HTC Rezound or the Rhyme as you will be able get hold of Android 4.0 ICS either in June or July. Also the news is good if you are the proud owners of the HTC Thunderbolt as you too can expect the update this year between July and August. On the downside if you have the Incredible 2 the news is not so good as there is no confirmation and it is rumored that it may not happen at all. This is very bad news as owners of the device got their hopes up when it was seen on the upgrade list as one of the device that would get Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyone who owns a tablet from HTC will find that they have to make do with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
Bad news: No Sense 4.0
On the support page from HTC it does state that all older handsets will have Sense version 3.6 along with Android 4.0.4 as opposed to the latest and most newly releases version which is Sense 4.0. This again is another huge disappointment for owners of HTC handsets. Currently the latest version is found on only the HTC One Series. HTC state the reason for this is that the latest version Sense 4.0 relies on specific hardware which the other handsets are missing.
If you do not see an update listed for your model of phone from HTC fairly soon then you probably will not be getting it as the roll out for ICS finishes by end of August.
