Top smartphone contenders for business for the holiday season are Samsung, Nokia and Apple. So which device is at the top of your Christmas list?
Christmas shopping: iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 920 & Samsung Galaxy S3
The iPhone 5 comes with a competitive price tag here in Australia and is a must buy for Apple fans. On Virgin Mobile you can get your hands on a plan for 24 months at $47 per month and there is nothing to pay out up front as you have to in the UK, US and NZ.
The Nokia Lumia 920 looks superb and it has a camera of 8.7 megapixels. The bad news is that at the moment we don’t have the release date for the Windows Phone 8 device.
The Nokia Lumia 920 weighs 185 grams, which is heavier than the iPhone 5 at 112 grams and the Samsung Galaxy S3 at 133 grams. The Lumia 920 comes with ppi of 332, which beats that of the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5. However when deciding between handsets you will generally take the OS into account ahead of weight and the pixels per inch. That is where the question mark pops up for Nokia’s flagship.
The Nokia Lumia 920 will be on Telstra and their LTE network; however it is thought that this will be exclusive for a limited time only. Vodafone and Optus will have the Lumia 920 eventually. We should hear the release date for the Lumia 920 sometime towards the latter half of next month.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with almost everything that the iPhone 5 offers. Therefore the choice between these two will be down to which of the two brand names and OS’ you want. This was the reason behind the recent Samsung ads, which targeted fans of Apple. The screen size may be the deciding factor here too as the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the 4.8 inch display of Super AMOLED, which puts it ahead if you believe that size matters.
Optus has the Samsung Galaxy S3 4G for $51 a month and if you are with Telstra, you can get the handset on the Every Day Connect Plan for $60.
So have you made the choice between these superb devices, and if so which is at the top of your Christmas list?
