Nokia Lumia 920 vs HTC 8X: Windows Phone 8 King Is…

HTC have announced their devices running Windows Phone 8 for the fall, but how do they measure up to the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820. Nokia announced the two handsets earlier in September.

Nokia Lumia 920 vs HTC 8X: First look

The devices from HTC will certainly add color into your life as they are very bright. They also feel great to hold thanks to the design of a soft touch unibody. The style of the HTC 8X and 8S is very impressive compared to what looks like black slabs offered by other manufacturers. However Nokia have also gone for bright colors and their design is also stylish, possibly slightly better in my opinion.

If it’s better quality sound you want then you should go for the 8X. The sound is louder and this is more than you can say for the Nokia handsets. However Nokia wins in every other front. It has the impressive optical image stabilization and they have included charging wirelessly as a standard feature just to name a few. HTC also say that the camera is something special, however this wasn’t apparent in testing.

When it comes down to software Nokia did show off some apps, despite the fact that Microsoft have a ban on anyone seeing certain parts of the OS. The apps included offline GPS navigation, free music playlists and augmented reality. HTC meanwhile showed off the special live tile which comes with a large clock and provides info on the weather. However this may disappoint as all it does is take you to the HTC Hub which comes with all HTC Windows handsets.

Overall HTC does not really have much over Nokia, but then neither of the handsets is available yet. HTC are pretty confident that they will have the devices out in time for the holidays, around November. Nokia on the other hand have been vague about the time frame for the Lumia 920 launch. This means that it’s possible that if Microsoft announces the features of their Windows Phone 8 and the devices of HTC are out and those of Nokia are not, HTC could have a head start. However I will still be saving my money for the Nokia Lumia 920. That screen and camera is a little too difficult to pass up on.
