Nokia have launched their flagship Windows Phone 8 handset, the Nokia Lumia 920, together with the smaller Nokia Lumia 820. So how does their flagship device match up against one of the champions of Windows Phone 8, the HTC 8X?
Nokia Lumia 920 vs HTC 8X
HTC have been leaders in the market as their device was launched earlier. This means that Nokia will have move fast in marketing and promotion of their device in Australia if they wish to take the top spot from HTC.
The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with the PureView camera and it is remarkable. The camera in only 8 megapixel, however the optics and sensor are not just run of the mill. The handset has the stabilisation tech of Nokia and this is superb for anyone whose hand tends to shake. It does work well and you can see this when you hold down the button to focus and move the device. The Nokia Lumia 920 is a lot like the other Nokia devices, the 800 and 900, in regards to the design. it is a little bit on the chunky side and it is a little heavy, however this is something you have to live with if you want optics that are better. Other than the camera the device has the dual core processor from Qualcomm, the MSM8960. Storage is 32GB but the device lacks SD card expansion. Wireless charging comes as standard and this seems to be something that is gathering momentum in the world of smartphones.
The Nokia Lumia 920 supports LTE; however this is useless when you live in Australia as it isn’t widely supported yet.
The HTC 8X is impressive when it comes to design and how the handset feels when holding it in the hand. It fits into the palm superbly thanks to it being the smaller of the two handsets. It is also lighter and thinner than the Nokia Lumia 920. One of the things that stand out on the device is the camera on the front. The back camera manages to take great photos, but the front one has an aperture of f/2.0 and can record 1080p video. The only downside to the device at the moment is the price tag of Rs 26,000 and the 16GB of storage, with no SD support.
When it comes down to the specs, both of the handsets are evenly matched. However the HTC Windows Phone 8X is the better overall device. The handset is more ergonomic than the Nokia Lumia 920 thanks to it being smaller and lighter. It also has a finish and look that is ahead thanks to the rubber style coating compared to the glossy coat. It is hard to tell which of the devices has the best camera right now.
