The Nokia Lumia 920 has brought in a lot of hype for the Windows Phone 8 family. However has Nokia priced it too highly? The company revealed its European price tag recently, and it does seem a bit steep compared to other handsets.
Nokia Lumia 920: cheaper than iPhone 5 but more than Samsung Galaxy S3
The Samsung Galaxy S3 costs around 540 euros – $690. The Nokia Lumia 920 is 673 euros – $840. There’s a big difference between these two phones when you consider that the Nokia Lumia 920 is a WP8 handset and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is arguably the best smartphone you can buy from the elite Galaxy Android family.
There’s also a few comparisons been made to other European WP8 handsets. The HTC 8X is around 550 euros and the 8S is 299 euros. In fact, the only phone that costs more than the Nokia Lumia 920 is the 16GB iPhone 5 at 679 euros. While Nokia may think its device is a premium product like the iPhone 5, they need to remember that the first iPhone was much cheaper than its successors. Even Apple had to start off small.
We know that AT&T will sell the Nokia Lumia 920, so it’ll be competing with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5. The big question is, will people be willing to take a punt on the Lumia when they can spend around the same or a bit more money for the tried and trusted iPhone 5, or even less money for the fab Samsung Galaxy S3?
