With the imminent arrival of the Nintendo Switch you might have thought that Nintendo would say goodbye to the Nintendo 3DS, however this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Some people had worried that the Nintendo 3DS would be forgotten about when the Nintendo Switch came out. The Switch is of course a hybrid console as you can play it at home and also on the go. The 3DS is an on the go console, so you might have thought that Nintendo wouldn’t need it anymore.
Apparently the president of Nintendo says that this isn’t going to be the case. He was recently asked about the fate of the Nintendo 3DS and he said that the launch of the Nintendo Switch would affect sales of the 3DS, but it wouldn’t kill it off.
He said that the 3DS would be able to continue in its own form and it would not be cannibalized by the Nintendo Switch. The president said that the 3DS had sold 2.7 million units in the last quarter. He was also asked whether the Switch would come with support for VR and the president said that nothing has been ruled out for the future. So it does sound like that it won’t offer support when it first arrives.
