We recently heard that the Google Pixel XL and Pixel phones are going to get the update to Android 7.1 before the end of the year. This has owners of the Nexus 6P and 5X worried as surely they are going to have to wait until 2017 before receiving the update. But just how long into next year will they have to wait?
We did hear that the Nexus devices along with the Pixel C tablet should get the developer preview of Android 7.1 before the end of the calendar quarter, which would be before 2017. However the Pixel XL and Pixel are both going to offer up some features that the Nexus handsets will not be getting and neither will the Pixel C.
At the moment we don’t know if other Nexus devices, apart from the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, will get the update to Android 7.1. It also wasn’t made clear which of the features are not making their way to Nexus devices that are found on the Pixel XL and Pixel.
It is safe to say that the Nexus handsets are not going to see the Pixel Launcher along with the nav bar buttons that have been redesigned, the Support section, which can be found within the settings isn’t likely to make its way to other handsets either.
For the time being we can only guess as to how long owners of the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will have to wait but our guess would be early 2017.
