Ever wondered what a mashup of the iPad and a MacBook Air running OS X would be like today? The answer is the Modbook which was launched in 2007 and is now to make a comeback in the tablet world.
Modbook Pro returns: mash-up of 13-inch MacBook Air & iPad
MacRumors reports that the device will be called the Modbook Pro and it will have SSD storage which begins at 64GB. Pre-orders for the 13 inch tablet will go live from today. However if you want to get one you will have to have a large bank balance as the base 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 will start at $3,499.
There is a 2.9 Core i7 version available with 16GB of RAM and they go up to 480GB SSD. The tablet makes use of a new MacBook Pro internally, so you cannot expect pricing to be competitive. Apple will be taking pre-orders on their website and you can order a custom configuration and there is the option of having Windows 7 installed.
If you want to take the upgrade to 16GB of RAM, 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 and 480GB of SSD then you can expect to hand over a cool $4,819 and on top of this you could add on the Logitech keyboard, external storage and single or dual head display.
It is thought that the tablet will ship from the middle of November, however the device will only be available in the US and you need to have a deposit of $500 to put down when you pre-order.
Given its massive price tag, we doubt this is targeted at MacBook Air and iPad users. It just happens to share the best of both worlds.
