The product manager of Microsoft, Petr Bobek, has confirmed that Microsoft Office will come to Android smartphones and iOS in 2013. He spoke at a press conference and said that native apps would be available from March of next year.
Microsoft Office app for Android and iOS confirmed
TheVerge has also seen a press release announcing the same thing, saying that along with Windows, Office would be available on Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian platforms. There will also be a new version of Office Web apps.
Office for the iPad has been rumoured to be in the pipeline for sometime now and it would provide users of iOS and Android devices with Word, Excel and Powerpoint apps. In the press release it says that Office 2013 will be available for all businesses by December and the launch for consumers is expected towards the end of February 2013. The version of Office app for mobiles and tablets to be released in March 2013 will be called Office 365.
With the product manager of Microsoft announcing it, there is nothing more to do but wait for the app to come out. It is just strange that Microsoft didn’t want to save such an announcement for the upcoming Windows Phone 8 event at the end of the month.
