While there has always been a lot of interest in the Mazda RX model, Mazda has made it clear that they are not looking to release one in the future so while we won’t be getting any RX model, a part of the RX might still live on.
Talks about Mazda working on their rotary engine has been going on for some time but nobody would have guess what Mazda plans to use it for. According to the latest report, the Mazda rotary engine might come back as an electric car range extender.
In fact, Mitsuo Hitomi, the person in charge of Mazda powertrains suggested that they might be offering their pure electric and range extended models in 2019 which means we should be seeing them really soon.
Of course, this is far from a confirmation so it is best to take it with a pinch of salt for now.
