The Mazda MX-5 Miata was crowned the 2016 World Car of the Year and for very good reason. Most of the car market has made the move to turbocharging and electrification, while at the same time saying goodbye to manual transmission offerings, but the Miata hasn’t.
When compared to other vehicles competing against it, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is more affordable, more so when you take into account the Porsche 718. Of course many people will say that the 718 does happen to be more potent than the Miata, but having plenty of power doesn’t mean that you get a ride that is more fun. This is an area in which the Miata wins easily and many consumers agree.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata sales have grown by 45% during February when compared to the same period during 2018 when 1,108 units of the vehicle were sold. This means 3 to 1 sales ratio between the 718 and the MX-5.
Looking to the future and Mazda is hoping to move more upmarket so that they will be considered to be a peer to Porsche. If and when this happens, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is going to have the same premium ranking as that of the Porsche 718. This means that the fight between them is going to be much fairer.
