When the Mazda CX-9 was launched it came with the SkyActiv turbocharged engine, an engine that was said to be arriving in future vehicles. But it seems that they left out the engine when they offered the new Mazda 3 Facelift.
The compact sedan has been given a refresh but regardless it still comes with the same engine that it had before, but with a new design and technology. Mazda hasn’t said anything about the turbocharged SkyActiv engine and perhaps the absence of it should have been expected before it arrived.
This is due to the fact that Mazda don’t usually offer up new powertrains for their mid-cycle refresh. Changing the engine would be a big thing and it wouldn’t make much sense for it to be given in a mid-cycle refresh, only a new generation model.
So if you were hoping that the Mazda 3 was going to come with the SkyActiv turbocharged engine you are going to have to wait longer until the next generation model comes out and this isn’t going to be before 2020.
