By  |

If you are looking for a new phone should you go for the Samsung Galaxy S2 which came out last May, or go for one of the newest devices, such as the Apple iPhone 5, launched in September or LG Nexus 4 which came out in November?

You can get the Samsung Galaxy S3 in two variations. Internationally it is the quad core with 1GB of RAM. Over in the US you get it with dual cores and 2GB of RAM. The LG Nexus 4 comes with a 1.5GHz quad core processor, while the Apple iPhone 5 has the A5 chip. While this is the slowest of the three handsets, it does beat the iPhone 4S. The LG Nexus 4 is the winner thanks to it having 2GB of RAM and quad cores.

If you want pure Android you would have to go for the LG Nexus 4, you get ICS with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4 comes with iOS 6.1. Android is great for customising, while the LG Nexus 4 will be the first to get updates. So here you could choose between the LG Nexus 4 and the Apple iPhone 5.

8GB or 16GB of storage comes with the LG Nexus 4 and it lacks SD card. Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and it has SD card. The Apple iPhone is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB but lacks SD card.

The LG Nexus 4 offers a display of 4.7 inches and this is True HD IPS and 318ppi. The Apple iPhone 5 is 4 inches of display and resolution of 1136 x 640 with 206ppi. If it is a large display that you want then it would have to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 with 4.8 inches of Super AMOLED that offers 306ppi and 1280 x 720 resolution. The IPS displays are best for outside and colours are usually realistic. The LG Nexus 4 has the biggest IPS display of the two, so it wins.

You get a 2100mAh battery with the LG Nexus 4 and this may provide around 15 hours of use. From the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5 you should 8 hours. AnandTech recently did tests and they said the Apple iPhone 5 was the winner, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 close behind and then the LG Nexus 4 came in last.

The LG Nexus 4 is 129 grams in weight and 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm and 122 grams. The Apple iPhone 5 beats both of these as it is thinner, lighter and smaller, plus it looks superb. The LG Nexus 5 also comes with looks that are great too.

The iPhone 5 is let down by the fact that it doesn’t have support for NFC. The same applies to the LG Nexus 4 with LTE. The Samsung Galaxy S3 wins has it supports both.

All devices come with cameras of 8 megapixels and they have support for autofocus and video at 1080p. The LG Nexus 4 has a 1.3 camera on the front, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 1.9 and the iPhone 5 comes with a camera of 1.2 megapixels. The LG Nexus 4 comes with PhotoSphere, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the option to take video and photos at the same time and the iPhone 5 is best for low light photos.

If you want a handset that is the easiest to use then you should go for the Apple iPhone 5. the device comes with superb looks and a great camera. However the downsides are that it is restrictive when it comes to the OS and you cannot customise it. It has the smallest screen and the battery isn’t removable, plus it doesn’t support SD card. The LG Nexus 4 packs some great hardware and it has the lowest price tag at $299. However storage is low and is doesn’t come with LTE. The winner has to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 thanks to it having the largest amount of storage, display, s features, a superb processor, NFC, LTE, MHL, DLNA and micro HDMI. You can change the battery and the cost is around $450 now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been announced.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
