Samsung revealed the Samsung Galaxy S3 in May of last year and it quickly rose to the top of the best-selling chart. Apple revealed the Apple iPhone 5 and LG brought out the LG Nexus 4. The Samsung Galaxy S3 happens to be the oldest of the devices, but how does it match up to the newer devices on the market?
The LG Nexus has the Qualcomm 1.5GHz processor, while the Apple iPhone 5 comes with the 1.5GHz processor, the A6. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with quad core internationally, while over in the US this is a dual core. While the Apple iPhone 5 might be the slowest of the handsets, it does come out on top of the Apple iPhone 4S as it twice as fast. The LG Nexus 4 has 2GB of RAM and it also has quad cores. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does have quad cores but it only has 1GB of RAM. If you want 2GB of RAM you will have to manage with dual cores. This means that the LG Nexus 4 has to be the winner.
Anyone who wants an Android based handset will be hard pushed to find a device better than the LG Nexus 4, thanks to it coming with Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS however the handset can be updated to Jelly Bean. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with the latest iOS, which is iOS6.1 and this is the most stable. The LG Nexus 4 will get faster updates, so really it would be a choice between the LG Nexus 4 or the Apple iPhone 5.
You can get the LG Nexus 4 in a choice of 8GB or 16GB, but the handset is let down by the fact that it doesn’t have SD card. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with comes with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB and it can also be extended by another 64GB. While the Apple iPhone 5 offers the same storage choices it doesn’t have support for SD card. Therefore the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes out on top.
The LG Nexus 4 has 218ppi, with a resolution of 1146 x 640 and it is 4.8 inches. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with 4 inches, which has a resolution of 1136 x 640 and ppi of 306. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the largest device as it has a display of 4.8 inches. All devices are superb, but there are some that believe that the IPS screens have the most realistic colours and the Super AMOLED are over saturated. This means as the LG Nexus comes with the biggest IPS display it is the winner.
You could get as much as 15 hours of talk time out of the LG Nexus 4, the devices has a battery of 2100mAh. With the Apple iPhone 5 you may get 8 hours, which is the same as what the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers.
For weight the LG Nexus 4 is 129 grams and the handset is 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm, the Samsung Galaxy S3 weighs in at 122 grams and measures 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm, while the Apple iPhone 5 happens to be the smaller of the devices along with it being the lightest and this means it comes out on top.
If you have a need for NFC on your device then you have to choose either the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the LG Nexus 4. On the other hand if you need LTE on your handset you have the choice of the Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you want both you have no choice but to go with the Samsung Galaxy S3.
All handsets have 8 megapixel cameras on the back. These offers 1080p video recording, autofocus and LED flash support. There is a 1.2 megapixel camera on the LG Nexus 4, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with the 1.9 megapixel camera. However it is the Apple iPhone 5 that wins for cameras as it has a better BSI sensor.
If you are looking for a handset that is easy to use then you would have to choose the Apple iPhone 5 and its iOS 6 platform. The device is also the winner for its looks. If your budget is tight then you will have to go for the LG Nexus 4 as it has the lowest price tag. On the downside some sacrifices have to be made such as lack of LTE and limited storage space (16GB max). If you are looking for a handset that is an all-rounder then it is the S3. It may be the oldest but the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a good balance of both features and price, making it the winner despite being the oldest flagship in this comparison.
