LG Nexus 4 availability issues have plagued the smartphones since its release late last year. Shockingly the LG Optimus G which is the basis for the LG Nexus 4 hardware has always been readily available.
Turn an LG Optimus G into an LG Nexus 4 (hack)
Of course many will say that this is because of the Nexus name and the software it runs inside (pure Android Jelly Bean). This is its distinctive feature and likely reason why people would choose it over the LG Optimus G.
So if you’re tired of waiting for the LG Nexus 4 to come back in stock, you may want to check out this clever mod by the folks over at XDA Developers that basically converts an LG Optimus G into the LG Nexus 4 from the inside.
It will replace the software on the LG Optimus G with what the Nexus 4 is currently running. The catch is that you will need to root and then flash the Optimus G with this software. It goes as far as even overwriting the bootloader, disabling LTE and limiting internal storage. As the XDA developer explains, it “remaps all partitions to the Nexus 4, overwrites all AT&T firmware with Nexus stuff, all the Nexus partitions, etc” and that your Optimus G will be behaving like an LG Nexus 4.
