Kia’s release of its upcoming hybrid model Niro would be a strong contender to that of the dedicated hybrid, the Toyota Prius. It’s going to take a lot to beat the tadpole-shaped car, but more importantly, the question has certainly raised some eyebrows: why does it look so much like last year’s Kia Sportage hybrid?
It’s worth mentioning that the Kia Niro is not just a new hybrid, but also marks Kia’s first development of a stand-alone hybrid-car platform, one that’s designed from the wheels up as a hybrid. Accordingly, the Niro is designed to accommodate a specific set of environmentally conscious technologies and next-generation powertrains, more so that it’s unique platform also has been engineered in isolation from existing Kia models.
When we mentioned that it looks rather similar to that of 2015’s Kia Sportage, we do mean that it bears a resemblance to that of the newer Sportage crossover and Kia’s larger Sorento too. It’s good to know that though they might share the same plastic surgeon, major components would differ at large.
Tell us, are you looking forward to see this mysterious Niro in the metal?
