When might we expect the untethered jailbreak for iPhone and iPod Touch on iOS 6? Here’s a recap of what’s happened over the past month.
iPhone & iPod touch iOS 6 untethered jailbreak news
Everyone wants to know when we can expect the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 so that Cydia can be installed on iPhone 5 and 4S. Is it coming or should people go ahead and install iOS 6.0.1? Here’s the skinny so far.
The Dev teams are working hard to crack the exploits of iOS 6 and they have made progress. However at the moment this is only on the 3GS, iPod Touch 4G and the iPhone 4. If you have these devices and you have iOS 6 installed then you can install Redsn0w.
However if you have the iPhone 4S you will either have to go back to iOS 5 or wait for the untethered jailbreak to be released for iOS 6. Absinthe can then jailbreak your iPhone 4S. However if you have updated to the latest OS or have an iPhone 5 then you will need to be patient and wait for the jailbreak to be released.
At the moment there is a tethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and 3GS, along with iPad Touch. However if you have to reboot your device or the battery fails then you have to do the jailbreak again. At the moment there is no untethered jailbreak solution out there otherwise.
So far iOS 6 has the developers puzzled and if you have the iPhone 5 then you will be pretty anxious by now. It could be that developers have been waiting for iOS 6.1 before releasing the jailbreak so as to make sure that their discovered exploits haven’t been fixed in the update. Let’s hope that if this is the case the update doesn’t close off exploits and take developers back to square one.
