iPhone iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Released: No To Evasi0n, Yes To Redsn0w

By  |

Just one day after Apple revealed beta 4 of iOS 6.1, they decided to reveal it publicly and while you are waiting for the untethered jailbreak to arrive from Evasi0n you may want to try your hand at jailbreaking with the tethered solution Redsn0w.

The Redsn0w jailbreak is a tethered solution and it only works on devices that have the A5 processor, such as the Apple iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4th generation. All of these devices use the Limera1n exploit. Bear in mind that you cannot use the jailbreak with the Apple iPhone 5, Apple iPhone 4S, Apple iPad versions 2, 3 or 4, 5th generation Apple iPod Touch or Apple iPad Mini.

If you want to try your hand at jailbreaking then you can follow the procedure which has been set out for you below.

First make sure that your device has iOS 6.1 on it

Connect it up to the computer and then put the device into DFU mode. You then have to open up 0.9.12b3 on the computer and it should be able to recognise the device. You then click on Extras and choose IPWS and head to the firmware file and Redsn0w will find your firmware.

Head to the main page of Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 and click on jailbreak. Wait until the process has gone ahead and put a tick mark against Cydia. Choose Next and the wait while the process completes. When it has completed you should be on the Lock Screen and you need to put your handset back into DFU mode.

On the main page of Redsn0w you have to click on Extras and pick IPSW and then iOS6.1 firmware and wait for the computer to recognise the device. Click on Boot Tethered and wait for the whole process to complete. Your device will restart and there should be a pineapple logo when the device boots.

When the jailbreak is finished you will find yourself back at the Lock Screen and you need to unlock the device and head to the second page by swiping and look for the Cydia icon. Open this and go through the set up and configuration.

Your iOS 6 device will now be jailbroken.
