iPhone iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak: What’s Really Going On

By  |

Many people who own the Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6 have been waiting to hear about the untethered jailbreak. Famed jailbreak developer, p0d2g, said that he wasn’t working on it anymore and this left many disappointed. However after some time out he had now given an interview and has talked about the jailbreak.

iPhone & iOS 6 untethered jailbreak hunt: what’s the skinny

@p0d2g said through Twitter that he wasn’t working on the untethered jailbreak. In October however he said that he was very confident that the jailbreak would arrive at some point. He went on to say that at the moment they were stuck, but things could change, as either he or someone else could find something. Since October things have been quiet about the untethered jailbreak, apart from seeing scam after scam pop up.

Some people said that perhaps jailbreakers were waiting for Apple to release iOS 6.0.1, this sparked talk that p0d2g and the Dev Team would wait until iOS 6.1 was released by Apple. Just a few days ago the beta 4 of iOS 6.1 was released to developers. It appears that this could be the last build, which would mean that 6.1 would be released very soon. Many people now have their hopes pinned on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1., however this may not happen. P0d2g along with MuscleNerd, p0sixninja and PlanetBeing, have not said anything about it.

iDownload Blog interviewed p0d2g and they talked about the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak. P0d2g, whose real name is Cyril, talked about his personal life outside of jailbreaking, along with how he got into hacking and why he likes to concentrate on iOS. He also gave out some advice to anyone who was thinking of following his footsteps.

He was asked whether the jailbreaking teams had come to a standstill and he said that he was confident that the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak will come within the next few months. He then went on to say that jailbreaking iOS would become harder and harder, with each new release. This is thanks to Apple tightening security. He also talked about the Chronic Dev Team and let it be known that they haven’t been involved too much in the past two jailbreaks for the Apple iPhone. People who have helped the most seem to be @MuscleNerd and @planetbeing, among others. he said that the reason that he had stepped back from the jailbreak in the past months was due to the fact that the Chronic Dev Team have been given credit for jailbreaks.

When it was mentioned that he wasn’t working on the untethered jailbreak at the moment, he was asked what it would take for him to change his mind. His answer was that there was a big chance that he would change his mind and in fact he has spent some of his time working on it, but he doesn’t have enough time. He said that he felt that the pressure was on him to come up with the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak, but he said that those who knew him and followed him, did realise that he had other commitments. The hacker said that he had received Twitter messages telling him to take his time and other hackers have said that maybe waiting for iOS 6.1 would be best.

He did send a message to his fans and this was to thank them all for their support and their patience and finished by saying that he couldn’t assure people of working on the jailbreak anytime soon, however it was something that he would eventually do.

So it seems that the untethered jailbreak could appear after Apple release iOS 6.1. And don’t expect either to pop up so soon.
