iPhone iOS 6 Jailbreak: Step-By-Step RedSn0w Guide

By  |

Just a few weeks following the 3rd beta release of Apple iOS 6.1, Apple has released beta 4 to registered developers. If you have developer access and you want to try your hand at jailbreaking the new beta then you can. The tethered jailbreak is available for iOS 6 as Redsn0w 0.9.15b3.

This update will work on all of the Apple devices that have iOS 6 at the moment apart from a few with the new chip. It should work with the Apple iPhone, iPad and the Apple iPod Touch. To get the new beta you should check out Settings – General and Software updates.

The update is 56.5MB but in total it will be 896MB. Apple has also revealed the beta 3 for Apple TV and this has the Xcode Developer Preview.

The jailbreak for iOS 6.1 is courtesy of Redsn0w 0.9.15b3. However consider that this happens to be a tethered jailbreak and also that it will not work on devices that have the A5 processor. Therefore it will only work on the Apple iPhone 3GS, the Apple iPhone 4, the 4th generation iPod Touch. All of these devices have what is known as the Limera1n exploit. If you are the owners of the Apple iPhone 5, the iPad Mini, the Apple iPhone 4S, iPad 2,3 or 4 or the 5th generation Apple iPod Touch, this will not work.

If you want to go ahead and try jailbreaking then follow the steps below.

Download and install beta 4 onto your device and make sure that your computer has iOS 6 on it or download it with 0.9.15b3.

Connect your device with your computer and then make sure that the device is in DFU mode. Then open 0.9.15b3 and the computer should pick up the device. Click on Extras > IPSW> head to the iOS 6 firmware file. Redsn0w should then be able to see the firmware.

Go to the main page of Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 and pick Jailbreak. Wait for the whole process to complete and make sure that a check mark is against Cydia. Click on next and the process of jailbreaking the device will go through. When it is completed you should find yourself on the Lock Screen. Put your device back into DFU mode.

Back on the main page of Redsn0w go to Extras> IPSW> iOS firmware and Redsn0w will see your firmware. Click on Boot Tethered and then just wait. When the device boots you should see a pineapple logo.

When the jailbreak has been completed you are taken back to the Lock screen. Unlock the device and make your way to the second page where you should find the Cydia icon. Open Cydia and go through setting it up and configuring it.

You should now have an iOS 6 device that has been jailbroken.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
