The iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 are one of the most anticipated smartphones this quarter and they look set to be a collision course. So how do they compare against each other?
iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is very much like a larger version of the S3, being 5.9 inches tall, 3.2 inches wide and 0.37 inches thick and weighing in at 6.4 ounces. The iPhone 5 is a lot thinner and it is lighter than any other version. It weighs 112 grams and is made from glass and aluminium which looks very attractive, however it is not as sturdy as the iPhone 4S.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with a Super AMOLED display of 5.5 inches with 1280 x 720 pixels. The S3 also has this resolution which thanks to the 4.8 inch display, looks great. The display of the Note 2 is not bad, however if it had an even higher resolution it would have competed with the Apple Retina display.
The iPhone 5 has such Retina display that is 4 inches and is 1136 x 640. The IPS display shows off colours that are rich and 4 inches is an improvement over the previous 3.5 inches. However when compared against the display of the Note 2, it is very small. The Super AMOELD screen of the Note 2 beats that of the iPhone 5 in terms of more vibrant colors and deeper blacks as well.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a quad core processor of 1.6GHz and it also has 2GB of RAM. The iPhone 5 comes with the dual core A6 processor along with 1GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz 4.0 and apps for S Pen. The iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 and is easy to use, works smoothly and very streamlined. If you want customization however than Android is a better bet.
The Galaxy Note 2 is perfect for watching video on and the player is easy to use. It comes with a graphic equaliser too. The iPhone 5 features a great music player, with equaliser and earpods that have been redesigned and feature noise cancelling.
Both of the handsets have 8 megapixel cameras that can record video at 1080p. The iPhone 5 comes with a panorama mode and Jelly Bean comes with a 360 degree mode on the Note 2. Battery life is generally a problem with handsets and the Note 2 comes with a 3100mAh battery. The iPhone 5 battery is below average and it has to be charged frequently despite what Apple tell us. The iPhone 5 and its 1,440MAh battery can however be charged extremely fast.
Which of the two devices is the best for you would depend on what you want out of a phone. If you like a massive display with powerful hardware and heavy customization abilities then the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may be perfect. On the other hand if you want an operating system that is easy to use, a great camera and possibly the best looking device on the market, then the Apple iPhone 5 is for you.
