iPhone 5, Lumia 920 & Galaxy S3: Best Xmas Gift Is…

By  |

Samsung, Apple and Nokia are all clamouring for holiday season business – so which tech giant is ideal stocking stuffer down under?

Apple iPhone 5

Apple’s iPhone 5 is being touted at a very competitive price here in Oz. If you’re an Apple fan, you might already have bought this latest Cupertino beauty, or are about to. Australia, it seems, has the best iPhone 5 prices there are anywhere, which is great news.

For instance Australia’s Virgin Mobile comes out as the lowest price plan option on a 24 month basis at just $47 per month ($1,128) on the Big Plan 29 with no up-front payments when compared with US, UK, and NZ.

Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 920 is wowing phone fans far and wide with its amazing looks and 8.7MP camera. However, there’s no firm Australian release date for this Windows Phone 8 handset just yet.

The Nokia Lumia 920 weighs 185g, a lot heavier than the 112g iPhone 5 and the 133g Samsung Galaxy S3. The Lumia’s pixel density of 332ppi beats the S3 and the iPhone 5 hands down, though. Weight and ppi values aren’t the first thing buyers look at, though, it’s the OS – iOS 6, Android Jelly Bean or WP 8.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be distributed exclusively by Telstra with its LTE network. However this is likely a limited time exclusivity. Vodafone and Optus will carry the Lumia 820 handset. Announcements of release dates are expected by the end of October.

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has nearly all the same features as the iPhone 5, so ultimately buyers will opt for the brand they prefer – which is why Samsung targeted ads at Apple fans! Some customers will decide according to screen size – in which case the 4.8” Super AMOLED screen of the S3 wins out if its size you’re after.

Optus will have the Samsung Galaxy S3 4G from $51 a month. Telstra customers can get the S3 on its $60 Every Day Connect Plan.
